Social Responsibility |
CertificationsNevado Roses strives to be the most environmentally and socially certified rose plantation in the world. We do this to prove that we “live as we preach”, and so far we have been certified by a number of international certifications, a few of which are listed below. Please feel free to browse the links below and familiarize yourself with the different standards. If there are any additional questions then please do not hesitate to contact us. Nevado Roses is certified by the Max Havelaar / Fair Trade certification since 2002, for sales primarily in the Swiss, US and EU markets. The fair trade label means that our staff get a cut of the consumer sales price that they can use for joint projects around our farm. Some of these projects we have listed below, and more are to come. Since 2002 Nevado is the holder of the Flor Ecuador label, a benchmarking initiative controleld by Expoflores, the Producers Association of Ecuador. Nevado Roses is certified sine 2005 by the Veriflora certification, a tough environmental label primarily used in the United States. Nevado Roses is certified sine 2005 by Rainforest Alliance, showing that we are in full compliance with their tough environmental standards. The BASC (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) certificate is a United States Customs standard, guaranteeing that we (or any other person) do not ship contraband in our boxes. This ensures our clients safety. Nevado was certified in 2002. Nevado Roses strives to be ever cleaner in its production methods. One of the ways forward is organic farming, and Nevado was certified as a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Organic producer in 2007, and we completed our quest for organic production by certifying also with the European Union Organic Standard in april of 2008. The Nevadito´s NurseryAs one of the programs paid for by the Fair Trade sales from our farm a childrens nursery was created in the beginning of 2006 with the purpose to attend the children of our workers. It has the necessary infrastructure to host about 40 children and is on an aggressive expansion plan. The schedule is arranged according to necessities of the parents. The personnel in charge have the profile adapted for the attention to the children of pre-school age. The Medical ClinicWe are pleased to announce that as from the 31st of August, 2006 Nevado Ecuador became the first flower producing company in the town of Salcedo, Ecuador to offer its employees full medical attention now in partnership with IESS, the Ecuadorian State Insurance System. The employees now have access to specialized medicine, free medicine and simplified social insurance procedures without leaving the farm We are proud to offer this to our employees as yet another improvement for our company.
